Concert Band
This course is designed for students who have completed a year or more of study
on their band instrument but who have not yet achieved a level of excellence
commensurate with being placed in an advanced band after the second year of
study. Members of this organization may perform at invitational competitions and
concerts outside of the school day.
Students are expected to be performing at grade level on their instruments. They
should be striving to maintain team-oriented discipline. Elements of music are
approached through increasing difficulty, which present challenging, interesting
and enrichment activities. Group contest participation is mandatory and provides
competitive opportunities for students to receive constructive criticism from
adjudicators outside the district. This class meets every day and is an all
year class. This group works at a comfortable pace allowing students with
less experience to enjoy learning band music.
Symphonic
Band
This is the secondary advanced band, which is made up of students who have
attained a high degree of proficiency on their instrument. Members of this
organization may perform at University Interscholastic League Competition, pep
rallies and other school functions, winter and spring concerts, recruiting
concerts, and invitational festivals. Students selected for this group are
strongly encouraged to audition for the Keller All-District Band and to perform
in the KMS solo competition.
A student's selection to this class will be greatly influenced by the student's
past record of personal discipline and their ability to function as a member of
a team. Elements of music are approached through exercises of increasing
difficulty, which present challenging, interesting, and enriching activities.
